So I’ve been using the same e-mail for fannish activity since I was 13. Problem is, it’s an AIM account, which is basically defunct now. This morning I recieved bout 30 spam emails within a 15 min period. (They were all like “confirm your subscription” emails to companies that I’d never heard of/clearly didn’t exist.) I deleted all of them without opening them.

The question is, does that mean a bot just got my email off some list somewhere and sent me spam? Or should I worry about the integrity of the account?

Should I maybe give up on that email account and form a new email to attach all my accounts to?

(I’m also really worried that–while the email still works and AIM has said they’ll keep existing accounts up and running–eventually the site will just…stop working. And then if I forget passwords to accounts, I wouldn’t be able to have them email me a reset link. Or worse, the sites I visit won’t read the email as an existing email anymore.)

Any advice?
